Name: Rachael Foo
Concentration: Government (Secondary Field Computer Science)
Hi! I’m Foo, born and raised in the glorious city of Hong Kong. I’m an Australian-New Zealand National, and I like to think that rugby is in my blood. I first got involved with Radcliffe freshman year, having played Netball my entire high school career, and have never looked back since. While I’m not playing rugby, I’m busy scheming about our next social, getting involved in Boston’s start-up scene or eating obscene amounts of jello.
Name: Shelby Lin
Concentration: Applied Math, focus in Economics
I’m also known as Mighty Mouse or, preferably, Demanding Flyhalf Shelby. I started at wing as a freshman then jumped into flyhalf my sophomore year. I like to think I’m much bigger than I am and it hasn’t gone too terribly thus far. Off the field, I am interested in gastronomy, biking, and economic research in health and development. I have a strange knowledge of ornithology and make great avocado and egg sandwiches.
Name: Xanni Brown
Concentration: Social Studies (Potential Secondary Field: Psychology)
A proud Ohioan and Sporcle groupie, I am quite excited to be Radcliffe’s backs captain this year. I love snow and puzzles and can generally be easily spotted in a bright yellow hat. When not in Cambridge, I like to climb up mountains, ski down them, and walk to other similarly inconvenient places.
I have four brothers, none of whom I’ve managed to convince to take up rugby. Having done one tour on the U20 women’s national team, I harbor twin ambitions to get back in a team USA jersey and to eat my weight in Graeters ice cream.
Name: Cayla Calderwood
Concentration: Social Studies
Hey! My name is Cayla and I came to Rugby from Basketball, Track and Volleyball and immediately fell in love with it. I’m originally from Whidbey Island, a small island near Seattle where I spent most of my childhood hiking trails and clamming at the beach. I’m now studying Latin America Urban Violence and hope to write my thesis about international factors on gang violence in Belize. The team often calls me the Hulk or Godzilla Mouse due to my extraordinary size for a back, and my favorite parts of Rugby are smashing people and singing songs at the socials!
Name: Taylor Reiter
Concentration: Human Evolutionary Biology (Secondary in English)
Hello I’m Taylor. I’m a life long enthusiast for life, and a 2 year enthusiast for rugby. On the team, I like running optional sprint practices whenever there is time, and I love spending time playing with everyone! Off the field, I still like running sprint practices, I love nutrition, my family, and my home states of Oregon, California, Virginia and Japan (which is not, in fact, a state).
Name: Kaleigh Henry
Concentration: Psychology (but going pre-law)
Position: Wing + Training for Fullback (Ask Bryan I’m lost)
Hey y’all! My name is Kaleigh. I played lax for Harvard for a season and had to quit due to some unfortunate circumstances. After playing sports (lacrosse, soccer, basketball) my entire life and working hard to get recruited D1, I was pretty much dying without a competitive sport in my life. I heard about rugby, trained hard over J-term and never looked back (thanks Taylor and Cayla!)! I absolutely love being a rookie as the team is incredible and I can’t turn down a good challenge (hitting people is also great). Also, being a member of this team is certainly one of my most positive athletic experiences to date. I was born in Georgia but live in sunny Florida now. This little southern belle isn’t raising much hell nowadays, as I spend most of my time working at my two jobs, volunteering, or holding a position in Theta. And playing rugby of course. I’m a huge fan of the beach (long or short walks will do), country music, snuggling, eating health nut food, playing with my dog (he enjoys wearing his tutu…really) and babies. Love me some babies – I’m a nanny! So not creepy at all.
Name: Aniebiet Abasi
Concentration: Electrical Engineering
Hi! My name is Aniebiet, but the team calls me Nebs. I was born and raised in Houston, TX and I’m Nigerian. I ran track for a couple of days during my freshman fall, then I quit and joined the rugby team in the spring of 2012. It was the best decision I’ve made at Harvard. I love playing wing because it gives me a chance to use my speed to my advantage and also allows me to appreciate the strength of the forwards and the tactical skills of the other backs. When I am not playing rugby, I am doing problem sets, writing poems or tweeting.
Name: Hope Schwartz
Hi! I’m Hope, and I’m from California. As a lifelong soccer and softball player, I never thought I would be playing rugby in college. I went to a couple practices at the beginning of the year, and I fell in love with the Radcliffe community, so I decided to take a risk and try something new. I’m so happy I did! When I’m not on the field or hanging out with my team, I love to watch sports, eat Insomnia cookies, and add to my fleece collection.
Name: Audrey Carson
Concentration: Social Studies
Position: Outside Center
Hey! I’m Audrey and I hail from sunny California, particularly from the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. I played rugby in high school and am absolutely thrilled to continue playing for Radcliffe. When I’m not spending time with my lovely rugby family, I like chowing down on J.P. Licks, watching the Daily Show, and mentoring in the Cambridge area.
Name: Lydia Burns
Concentration: Undecided! (Most likely a secondary field in Visual and Environmental Studies)
Hola! I’m Burns, hailing from our neighboring city of Boston. I have been obsessed with Radcliffe rugby ever since I became involved last semester and I could not have asked for a better family to welcome me to Harvard! In the very sad times that I am not playing rugby I am busy trying to keep rhythm with the Kuumba singers, befriending stray cats, or eating everything (vegetarian!) in sight.
Name: Rebecca Gonzalez-Rivas
Concentration: Government, Social Studies, Classics (Maybe?)
Position: Outside Center
Oh hai! My name is Becky, I grew up in paradise (New Jersey) but Cambridge is nice too. I do this rugby thing when I’m not busy eating and hanging out with all my (imaginary) friends. I’m a freshman attempting this whole classes thing while still striving to get ten hours of sleep a night. I like kittens and have already named my future bulldog puppy Lola. You should probably adopt me because I clearly need some help.
Name: Nia Walker
Concentration: Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (and maybe a secondary in marine biology)
Hi there! My name is Nia and I just started playing rugby this spring. What made me so interested in joining Radcliffe Rugby was watching some of the players playing outside after the most intense snowstorm of the season. I knew from that moment that Radcliffe Rugby girls are awesome, tough, and like a family; the Rad spirit is what I love most about being on the team. I used to do karate and played tennis and volleyball, but it was love at first sight for rugby. Inside this sweet, quiet girl is a hulk type creature interested mainly in smashing, getting dirty, and driving my way through people. When I’m not playing rugby though, I love reading, writing, and thinking about whales and Abraham Lincoln (favorite president of all time).
